Co-Starring in a Circus Called Life

I remember being excited to go to the circus in my childhood. I was amazed with the bright lights, colorful decorations, trained animals, and the acts of the performers on stage. The atmosphere created excitement, mystery, and allure. I never knew that the circus would come to life in my quest for love and that I would co-star in it instead of watching from the audience.

In the beginning, each performer in the circus of my life, captivated me with their handsome looks, charms, and play of words. Just as soon as I had fallen, their true characters of deceit were unmasked. Instead of paying attention to the warning signs, I joined the circus in hope of proving my loyalty and gaining love in return. As a result, I began jumping through hoops to make them happy, while I was losing myself in the process. The irony I later discovered is that I was the muse that each performer used to gain appeal to the world audience in order to hide personal insecurities within.

In hind sight, I am grateful for the lessons that being apart of the circus taught me. I am glad to be able to look back at being a part of the circus and see the good in finally getting the strength to leave it behind. I was drawn to the illusion, of what I once thought love was. I know now that love is not a circus. It’s not meant to tease or take advantage of one’s kindness. God is love and that is sufficient for me.  A favorite scripture that reminds me of what real love is and inspires me that love is possible:

I Corinthians 13:4-7 (King James Version):

  1. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.
  2. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh noth her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
  3. Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
  4. Beareth all things, believeth all things, endureth all things.

Epitome of Success

What is Success? Society measures success based on economic status and material possessions. Have you ever bought something new and you were initially excited, but then the joy faded? The cycle continues when an upgraded version of the product you have recently bought is released. I can recall experiencing this every time I upgrade my cell phone or go shopping for the latest trend. Ultimately, I have come to realize that  satisfaction felt from material possessions and financial gain is temporary and only in the moment. The epitome of success is happiness.

One may wonder, what is the definition of true happiness? The dictionary defines happiness as a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. This explains that true happiness starts from inside and is expressed outward. I compare this process to the effect of a pebble thrown in the pond. When one throws a pebble into the pond a small ripple spreads outward to create the ripple effect.

The next question that comes to mind is, where does one start to find true happiness? I believe one must change his or her mindset to find happiness. One must make creating happiness a daily focus. Creating consistent happiness begins with finding your purpose in life. Take a minute to think about, what makes you get out of bed each morning that you are passionate about? This is what you were equipped with by God to pursue. You’ll know that what you are pursuing is in sync with God’s plan because it will bring you unexplained joy and contentment. Your purpose will help others simultaneously as it helps you to become better.

Now that you have discovered your purpose, consider how will this purpose help you grow in personal areas of your life and how can it change the lives of others? Your answers to these questions are your guide to grab personal happiness. As a result, this happiness will help you achieve success because of the passion that pursuing your purpose ignites in you.

Chasing Your Dreams By Any Means Necessary

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed: for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee, yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of righteousness.”- Isaiah 41:10 KJV

Often times when we choose to activate the faith needed to pursue making our dreams a reality, thoughts of doubt come to hinder us from taking that leap of faith into the right direction. Have you wondered where this doubt comes from? Doubt is a form of fear. Once fear enters the mind, it creates a ripple effect on one’s decisions and actions in life. It will appear as if there are too many obstacles blocking the dream from manifesting. One must always remember that making your dream a reality will take a lifetime to achieve it. No obstacle is bigger than God. He doesn’t give us more than we can bear. On the journey to greatness don’t lose hope. There is no fear in God because he will strengthen us daily to fulfill the dreams he has predestined for each and every one of us. With his strength, we now have what it takes to chase our dreams by any means necessary!
