Soul Food🙏🏾🪴🩷: Run Your Race: Let Go of What’s Weighing You Down

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” — Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV)

Hello Sassy family! Have you ever wondered why you feel exhausted even though you’re not the one running the race? Sometimes we’re tired because we’re carrying things God never asked us to carry.

People’s opinions.

Rejection.

Comparison.

Unforgiveness.

Fear of failure.

Some weights have to be dropped before you can run freely. If this is the current season you’re in, Hebrews 12:1 was laid on my heart to share with you.

This scripture reminds us that this life is a race and God has already prepared a race specifically for you. But you cannot run your race effectively while constantly looking sideways at someone else’s lane or carrying the baggage from a season God has already told you to leave behind.

There are things we hold onto because they once mattered to us. There are relationships we struggle to release because we invested so much. There are disappointments we replay because we never received the closure we wanted.

But sometimes closure is realizing that God is calling you forward.

You don’t have to carry yesterday into tomorrow.

You don’t have to keep shrinking yourself to make other people comfortable.

You don’t have to prove your worth to people who refuse to recognize it.

You don’t have to keep revisiting doors God has already closed.

And you certainly don’t have to run someone else’s race.

Reflection

What am I carrying that God is asking me to lay down?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that You have uniquely designed a race for my life. Help me recognize the things I am carrying that You never asked me to carry.

Give me the courage to release the past, the wisdom to let go of what is no longer serving Your purpose, and the strength to stop allowing fear, comparison, rejection, and other people’s opinions to weigh me down.

Teach me to trust Your timing, follow Your direction, and keep my eyes focused on You.

I surrender every unnecessary weight to You today.
