Sassy Mindset💋Protect Your Peace: Guard Your Emotions

Have you ever allowed someone’s words, attitude, actions, or even their silence to completely shift your mood?

One minute, you’re having a good day. You’re feeling confident, focused, and at peace. Then someone says something that rubs you the wrong way, treats you differently than you expected, or does something that disappoints you; and suddenly, your entire energy changes.

But what if protecting your peace means learning that not everything deserves an emotional response from you?

This quote was laid on my heart to share with you because I believe someone needs this reminder just as much as I did.

“Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions.” ~Pema Chödrön

There will always be people who misunderstand you, disappoint you, provoke you, overlook you, or simply behave in ways you cannot control. There will also be circumstances that don’t go according to plan.

You may not be able to control what happens around you, but you can become more intentional about what happens within you.

For a long time, I thought keeping the peace meant making sure everyone else was comfortable, even if it meant I wasn’t.

I would overthink people’s reactions, worry about being misunderstood, and sometimes allow someone else’s behavior to make me question my own worth.

But I’m learning that peace doesn’t come from controlling how other people treat you. Peace comes from becoming secure enough within yourself that their behavior doesn’t determine how you see yourself.

Sometimes protecting your peace looks like responding instead of reacting.

And sometimes, it simply means taking a deep breath and reminding yourself:

Everything doesn’t deserve access to your peace.

There is power in realizing that you can acknowledge how something made you feel without allowing that feeling to control your entire day, or your entire identity.

Inner peace isn’t about having a life where nothing ever goes wrong. It’s about developing the wisdom to recognize what deserves your attention and what needs to be released.

Choose yourself. Choose discernment. Choose boundaries. Choose peace.

And when life gets messy, remind yourself that you still have a choice in how you respond.

Your peace is precious.

Protect it.

Reflection:

What situation or circumstance have you been allowing to have too much control over your emotions, and what would choosing peace look like for you in that situation?

Maybe it’s time to release the need to control the outcome, stop replaying the situation, set a boundary, or simply surrender it to God.

That’s where your peace begins.
